Initial Application
The following are the general components of the Dental schools in the US and Canada are as follows: A- Completion of the application B- Ordering your transcripts well in advance C- Autobiographical Sketch D- Personal Statement (PS) or essay. Should start writing your PS at least 2 months before the application deadline E- Letters of recommendation (LOR). You should approach your profs and other LOR writers months and months in advance, so that you can get them before the application deadline. F- Early Registration for DAT, especially during the Pandemic with very limited availabilities of time slots. It is wise to allow enough time to take the DAT twice if needed.
Secondary application
Most dental schools do not have Secondary Applications. The ones that do, usually ask you for submission of Personal Statements (PS) or Essays. Either in addition to the PSs in the Primary application or actually ask you for a PS for the first time. The secondary PSs could be in the form of a few specific questions asking you to choose activities from your CV and use them to respond. For instance, you can be asked “Tell us about a time that you feel you made a difference in someone’s life?” or “What do you think has been your greatest academic achievement?” The deadline for submitting the secondary PSs could be as early as 2 weeks from the date you receive the Secondary application questions
